Description
Turn West off the highway that runs parallel to the Arkansas River
between Buena Vista and Salida and head up valley toward Tin Cup
Pass and the Ghost town of St. Elmo. On your way to Almost Heaven
you might want to stop at one of the two riding stables; or the
hot springs for a soak in one of three pools or in the creek; or
you could throw a line in the stream or a nearby lake and land a
few native trout for dinner, all just five minutes from your destination.
From Chalk Creek, turn onto a mile-long private road and head up,
up, and up from the valley floor until you reach the very top of
the ridge, at 9,000 feet on the shoulder of 14,000 foot Mt. Antero,
directly across from the Chalk Cliffs and in full view of another
“Fourteener”, Mt. Princeton. Now you are in a pine forest,
and just before the end of the dead-end road. If you look to your
left you will see one of the most spectacular views in Colorado
– down the canyon to Tin Cup Pass to your left, the Chalk
Cliffs and the peaks of Mt. Princeton straight ahead, the creek
and the lakes in the valley below, and Buffalo Peaks and the town
of Buena Vista to the right.
Park the car and walk down the short path to Almost Heaven. But
be careful not to step on the wildflowers, or scare the grosbeaks,
juncos, or finches away from the ceramic bird bath in the front
yard (be sure to bring your binoculars and bird book). And please
try not to spook the wild turkeys that may be nesting in the trees
across the road or the deer peacefully grazing on the hillside below.
When you get to the front porch, you may be tempted to sit in the
glider or at the round breakfast table and take in the tranquility
of this special place and the clear view of miles of National Forest
land that start just across the road. Please use the combination
to the lock box to get the key and open the hand-hewed front door
and step into the spacious and airy living room/dining room with
its comfortable furniture, hardwood floors, area rugs from around
the world, original artwork, a corner, raised-hearth fireplace,
and eight picture windows. Or mosey into the open kitchen and help
yourself to a glass of wine or one of the drinks that will be waiting
for you in the frig. Once you get oriented I am sure it will not
take you long to gravitate to the fabulous deck – over 300
square feet of covered deck with breath-taking views, lots of comfortable
deck furniture, and a dining table and chairs for six. Relax! Enjoy!
This almost-new private residence has three bedrooms and two full
baths. The master suite is on the main floor, with a light and airy
master bedroom with a hand-carved queen bed and night stands, two
dressers, a ceiling fan, and French doors leading to the gorgeous
deck. The other half of the master suite is an oversized master
bath, which has a two-person Jacuzzi, a two-person shower, a two-person
vanity, and a one-person toilet.
Two other bedrooms, a full bath, a laundry room, and an over-400
square foot family room/office, which is equipped with the latest
40” flat-screen HD TV, VCR, and Stereo, are on the ground
floor One bedroom has a queen bed and dresser and the other can
be made up either with a king bed or two twin beds, depending upon
the size and composition of your party. The laundry room has a brand
new top-of-the line front-loading high energy washer and dryer and
all the cleaning and laundry supplies you may need during your vacation.
And since the tower is directly across the valley on Mt. Princeton,
the wifi throughout and all around the house and deck is the fastest
and most reliable in the valley.
What lies ahead is a world of limitless adventure, fun, and relaxation.
You could just hang out in your spacious mountaintop retreat bordering
on National Forest that is just a short walk to the Colorado Trail.
Or you could drive five minutes to fishing or the hot springs. Or
do what a lot of people do who come to the Upper Arkansas Valley
-- kayak, raft, ride a horse, fish the high lakes, mountain bike,
or take in the art galleries, valley special events such as BaloonaVista,
the Salida Art Walk, or FibArk as well as the great restaurants
of Buena Vista and Salida. Almost Heaven is a unique option for
those looking for peace and quiet, comfortable surroundings, breathtaking
views, easy access to nearby activities, and absolute comfort. Go
for it!
This incredible home has the most stunning views in
the area. You can access the San Isabel National Forest just across
the road and enjoy hiking, mountain biking and fishing. Almost Heaven
is a unique option for those looking for peace, quiet, views and
absolute comfort.
